Abstract:

Introduction

Job stress is an important factor in causing physical and mental complications in employees and has negative effects and consequences on the organization, including the increase in the desire to quit work, and a decrease in productivity and work performance. Identifying the factors affecting job stress will help to plan and reduce the negative effects of these factors. Therefore, this research was conducted to identify factors affecting job stress in dump truck drivers of an open pit mine in the center of Iran.

Methods and Materials / Case Report

In this qualitative study, interview and observation methods were used to collect data. A cycle of daily activities of 10 dump truck drivers was observed and recorded. Then, the Timeline Analysis (TA) of the tasks was done to check the time pressure. Also, 12 face-to-face interviews were conducted with dump truck drivers and the interviews reached data saturation. Interviews were coded with a thematic analysis approach and MAXQDA software, and the most important factors were extracted.

Results

Factors causing job stress were classified into two categories, individual and organizational. Age, distance from family, worrying about transportation to the workplace, low and poor quality sleep, and fatigue are among the most important and influential individual factors in creating job stress, and also among the organizational influencing factors are long continuous working hours, Mental pressure to do work, the lack of sports and recreational space, the existence of a fixed rule in doing work, and being reprimand by the supervisor.

Conclusion

Factors causing job stress are created in two categories, individual and organizational, which can be reduced to some extent with proper planning and management. Implementing organizational interventions, carrying out correct training, and planning to manage the stress of employees can help to some extent in increasing the work efficiency of dump truck drivers.
